About The Smithy

The Smithy is a detached, stone, converted cottage beautifully renovated and restored to give high quality accommodation set on the cliffside in the picturesque harbour village of Abercastle with the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path on your doorstep.

Four steps lead up to this quaint cottage with slate floors and exposed stonework and beams, step into the spacious open plan living space with modern fitted kitchen area, furnished in a charming mix of contemporary and quirky antique pieces with lovely comfortable seating to relax on, while the pretty bedroom reflects the changing colours of the view over the village and sea. Sit on the bench in front of the cottage and watch the world go by as the fisherman land their catch, soak up the wonderful aspect over the inlet and out to sea.

Spend your days exploring the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path to Abermawr and Aberferlin below Trefin where there is a friendly village pub to enjoy a pint. Or further down the coast lies Porthgain and Abereiddy only a short drive away. A delightful cottage for a couple to enjoy a romantic retreat or for a family holiday base whatever the season.

Care needed with children and elderly as some unfenced drops to the front of the cottage.

Access Statement

This Access Statement has been prepared by the owner for your information; it is the most recent version that we have received. This statement has been prepared as objectively as possible, however with such a wide remit oversights may be made.

Please ensure all crucial requirements for a safe and enjoyable holiday are present so if you have any queries whatsoever, please do not hesitate to contact us on 01437 767600.

Initial approach is made down an unmade road onto a rough driveway. There is a drop - protected by a picket fence on the seaward side. The front door is the only door for access. There is no telephone but mobiles can usually be operated – but sometimes it requires a short walk up the lane. Light can mostly be operated from the panel just inside the front door – except those for the area upstairs where there is an independent switch at the bottom. The bedroom downstairs has ‘touch’ operated lights. There is public transport from the main road through the village and a leaflet is provided for times. The Fflecsi buses are very useful for walkers. The nearest shop is at ‘The Square and Compass’. Turn right at the top of the tract and drive down through the village and up the hill. Take the first turning to the left and follow the road until you come to a T junction with the main St. David’s road. Turn left and there is a small supermarket and garage a few hundred yards on the right hand side. There is oil under floor heating that does not require adjustment. There is no gas but the cooker is provided with instructions. There is also a microwave. Please feel free to use the barbecue at the back of the house – where the folding drying line is situated outside the bathroom window. Please note the bathroom window cannot be locked as it is a fire escape. There is a cot and highchair on the ‘shelf’ upstairs but mind your heads! The Coastal Path can be reached by walking down the tract in front of the building and there are some really beautiful views. Strictly parking for one car only. Care is needed when parking as shared access must not be blocked.

We love the cottage - it was a stormy week but the underfloor heating kept the cottage warm and cosy. We will definitely return in 2022!

A lovely relaxing week with mixed bag of weather, but it is November after all! However, the cottage is cosy and well equipped. An added bonus was all of the beautiful walks in all directions from the property. We highly recommend, thank you!

Thank you for a lovely stay in The Smith! A few showery days but on the whole, lovely weather and we were able to see lot's of seals playing here in the bay. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Mrs Thompson

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this stunning and peaceful location. The cosy cottage had all the creature comforts needed, beautifully restored and with lots of thoughtful basics which one doesn’t always find. Our emergency rations barely touched. Lots of lovely walks from the doorstep and plenty of good tea and watering holes in easy reach (some noted in the visitors book we left an entry in). Hubble would have liked a pub on the doorstep - but you can’t have everything!

Liz & Scooby
